Immunity is the resistance of an organism to infection, disease, or other unwanted biological invasion.
Vaccination is the administration of antigenic material (the vaccine) to produce immunity to a disease.
At the end of this session you will be able to:
- Describe how the immune system works in farm animals
- Define the terms 'induced' and 'innate' immunity
- Explain the difference between the animal's humoral response and cell mediated response to infection
- Explain how vaccines vary in their mechanisms
- Give examples of common vaccines used on farms.
