Summary

This lesson focuses primarily on developing pupils' ability to use specific tools in a typical art-based program. Children are encouraged to recognise important symbols associated with various religions. Through developing and improving specific ICT skills, children are creatively able to personalise and enhance a varied selection of religious symbols.

Objectives

To open a "religious symbol" template and start filling in appropriate areas of the image using brush, spray and fill tools. Review and save work.

Learning outcomes

To have creatively enhanced one or more symbol templates using the appropriate ICT art tools.

Prior learning required

How to log on to a computer.
Some prior experience using an external mouse.
The ability to open and close a program.
How to save a program.

Timing

Depending upon individual ability, each lesson should take approximately 45 minutes to an hour.

Necessary vocabulary

Paint, palette, fill, spray, undo, rubber, star of David, seven-branch candlestick, Christian dove, Buddhist lotus leaf, Islamic moon and star.

Suggestions for differentiation

The teacher should evaluate each pupil's current skill level before assigning a specific template, as some are more challenging to work with than others.

Curriculum links

At key stage 1, pupils should be taught to become familiar with Information and Communications Technology (ICT) hardware and software. They learn to use ICT confidently and purposefully to achieve specific outcomes. They start to use ICT to develop their ideas and record their creative work.
