  • Hitler and his Minister of Propaganda, Goebbels, tried to convince everyone that it was the legitimate execution of enemies of the German state, and that they had done their duty protecting the nation.
  • Hindenburg, who was no fan of Hitler's, congratulated and thanked him for saving the nation.
  • The world and the German people were shocked when they heard about the event.
  • Hitler gained the loyalty and support of the army (Reichswehr).
  • The SS became the most feared armed force in Germany.
  • Hitler now fully controlled the armed forces of Germany.
