You have three tasks to complete. As you
work through the task you will develop your Word skills. The first
task is fairly easy, but they get more and more difficult as you go
on.

Paragraphs
Close any open Word documents. Right click

paragraph of text. 2. Read through the text and by deleting
and typing, replace the following words with ones of your own
choice, in order to change the meaning of the text: - Obviously
- Clearly
- Notably
- Significantly
- Testament to
- Evidence of
- Desire and determination
- Courage and fortitude
3. Make the first sentence italic. 4. Make the second sentence bold 5. Highlight all the text, and change the
font to "Comic Sans MS". 6. Copy the text, and paste it twice
underneath the current paragraph. 7. "Center" the first paragraph, "Left
align" the second and "Right align" the third. 8. Describe briefly how you have changed
the meaning of the text and what differences the editing has made
to the overall appearance of the text. Formal letter
Close any open Word documents. Right click

poor quality formal letter. 2. What impression of The Pen
Supplier's Shop do you think this letter would give in its
present state? 3. Why is quality of presentation of
written work such as letters, essays, advertising material so
important? 4. There are many errors to fix - think
how could you correct them quickly. 5. Highlight the entire letter and make it
all one font size. 6. Look at the parts of text which have
strange formatting - fix them! 7. Look at the way each of the paragraphs
are aligned. Improve this. 8. Use the spell checker to correct the
spelling errors. 9. Are there any further additions or
edits you would make to this letter, and why? Poor Presentation
Close any open Word documents. Right click
and save the file below. poorpresentation__9506.doc Directions 1. Open the document. You should see a
terrible piece of presentation. 2. Look through the document - what
aspects do you need to improve? 3. Try to improve the presentation by
removing unnecessary WordArt and using sensible colours and
fonts. 4. You will need to correct character
spacing - use the "Format", "Font" menu. 5. The line spacing needs to be improved -
use the "Format", "Paragraph" menu. 6. Add in a header to the document - click
"View" and "Header and Footer" 7. Put a clear title in the header. Add
your name and page numbers to the footer. 8. Look over the entire document - what
still needs to be fixed? 9. Delete the strange circle and add in a
Clip Art image. 10. Create a bulleted list - click on the
"bullets" button to start it. 11. Why are bulletted lists useful in
documents that are providing information? 12. What other Word tool could you use to
achieve a similar effect?
